Arctic Monkeys: Do I Wanna Know
Step 2
When analysing the track we have to take into account some different things.
- Meaning/Concept/content - Overall I feel that this song is about a break up and how the male is wondering whether see is sad about the break up as well.
- Imagery - The imagery shown in the song is a rather depressive vibe. It gives of a rather dark and gloomy atmosphere. The music video is mostly of lines that shift into other things. However the lines often shift when the guitar is playing. This is most likely to simulate the guitar strings and the voices included in the song.
- Narrative - The narrative seems to be of a break up between a guy and a girl. The guy wants to get back together but he is not sure whether the girl has moved on. The title suggests whether he wants to know whether she has moved on and is with someone else.
- Genre/Style - The genre of the song is most likely indie rock. This is basically making and producing the music by yourself which can usually be received as having a low production budget
- Pace - The pace of the song is rather slow throughout the song.
- Duration - The duration of the video is 4:25. I will have to cut this down to meet the guidelines set out. The guideline of the music video we will create is that it has to be from 3:4 minutes long.
Existing Music videos
The Arctic Monkeys have been around since 2002 when the band formed. There style has changed slightly through the years from starting of as a indie punk band. However as they have been together through the years they have found a style that attracts the mainstream which has nominated them for awards and won them. Including nomination for three grammys and has won seven Brit awards which has included Best British Act.
Clothing
The clothing of the Arctic Monkeys haven't really changed that much. There style is usually just with a black t shirts with a stereotypical punk haircut. Some artists dress in a way to show who they are as a person and with the band this is so.
Make up
Make up is not really a big part of the Arctic Monkeys style. However they do use some for to look good in there music videos and during interviews. With other artists like Marilyn Manson make up is a big part of his style however with some other artists its just to make them seem appealing to their audience.
The Tone of Existing Music Videos
Videos differ from time to time. The song that I am doing for the music video for is Do I Wanna Know and the music video is a very dark and depressive atmosphere. However when they were just starting out with the song I Bet you Look Good on The Dancefloor the music video was a lot more up tempo which gave it sort of a dancy vibe.
This video is an animation that is in black and white. The lyrics compliment this by singing about a break up.
However with this music video it is just a performance by the band rather than a smooth animation trying to convey a message.
Locations of Previous Music videos
The locations that the Arctic Monkeys mostly differ from time to time. However in most videos they are usually never without there instruments and on a stage which tells us that there music is what they want to do and is their passion. The band is signed with an independent record label based in London and they have wings in multi national countrys. This may be the reason that the band have many different types of locations for their music videos.
Concepts and Narratives
The concepts and narratives of the music videos in my opinion are mostly about relationships and how people deal with them. The music videos explains how some people react to them. This is a popular theme in popular songs which many people can relate to.
In this video Snap Out Of It. It could be said that the result of this women crying could be over a break up.
This music video Why'd You Only Call Me When Your High? is about a guy wanting to see a girl very late at night.
