Pre-production
We have started to our project by splitting up the script
into three parts. Each part will be taken on by an individual to spread the
work load equally. We each direct, produce and edit our own parts to show our
skills. We also helped with each other’s parts however were graded overall on
our parts of the single camera production. At first we had to plan the project
by making storyboards. These are used to give us a blue print of how the
production will go. We were each in charge of each other’s parts so we decided
to do our own storyboards. During this time we made up our minds on what
characters we were going to be. My character was Dan, Mark was Michael and
James was James. This was what we were doing for the most part from 5th
February till 12th February. During this time I also had to complete other
pre-production work like the production schedule. I tried to make the schedule
in the best possible way I could by estimating the time in which we might be
done by the deadline. We also had to get permission from the talent to make
sure we can film. There were many other pieces of paperwork including the risk
assessment, prop list and budget list. We mostly divided this out between our
group which included James and Mark as well as me.
Production
For the production side of the project we decided to do our
scenes in order to make sure we wouldn't become confused. However during the
production we revered back to our production schedule a lot which helped us
keep focus. The filming started on the 12th February .The group lives not far
from each other so it was great that we could reach locations that were close
to us. The equipment we had to hire consisted of a DSLR camera, tripod, mic and
neutral density filter. In our group we weren't very experienced with the equipment
so it took us some time to get used to it. During production we had changed
some of the locations to the ones we had planned to film at because we thought
that it was easier to focus on locations that we could use that were near
college. There were also other problems like the weather. As it was during the
end of winter it went dark rather quickly which led to some lighting inequalities.
Overall though we felt we did rather well with the production. We got the
finished project on the deadline.
Post Production
The post production of the project had its issue's as well.
Near the deadline it was a little stressful for me as I had accidently not
followed the script correctly as I was trying to show of my editing by re
arranging the shots however I quickly realised the narrative didn't flow quite
right. The editing still went well regardless. In my opinion this was the best
part of the project for our group. We had left the editing till the end of the
project which did cause some issues. It led to a rush at the end which should
be avoided. The title of the film was also changed, it was originally called
scheme. We then came to the conclusion that we would call it Badvice. We also made a good title sequence with the program Adobe After Effects. This was a good experience as I had not used Adobe After Effects before so I got to observe the program.
